When 826DC approached me about helping design their first-ever large-print book—centering accessibility from the start—I was elated and all in. Having worked with 826DC in several capacities throughout the years, I was excited for us to create a much-needed pathway that not only our readers were asking of us but was needed for our larger, diverse, and growing communities. After much research and practice, we were able to publish our first large-print book and standard edition in a way that created a cohesive look and feel between both versions.
This was a much-needed and beautiful learning experience. And I am grateful to 826DC to have been a part of it. It is for our community that we are working on changing the practices to be more accessible and inclusive so we all can experience these much-needed stories.
About this book from 826DC:
In 826DC's second-ever anthology, In The Light, you'll discover where our students have been in the past, how they are sorting through the present, and where they want their futures to take them. Each of their genre-bending pieces from 2016-2021 teaches us something unique about being human in a complicated universe, offering us as much insight into our own lives as it does into theirs.
